This is a smaller venue as it is a community powwow event but attended by many different dancers, singers, and visitors some that come from various states and abroad. The area is near the Rocky Mountains and camping is free at the grounds. It is just past the Crowheart Store heading towards Dubois, Wyoming. Past the elementary School if coming from the store and if you are coming from Dubois you went to far if you past the school. Always attended by various fans of this event that has been around for over 30 years but with different themes in the past. Has an elder lady representative picked to represent this event. Sept. 2-4 30th Annual Labor Day Pow-Wow, University of the Pacific, 3601 Pacific Ave., Stockton, CA. All Drums & Dancers Welcome this is a Contest Powwow with a Powwow Princess Contest. there will be: 50/50 * Raffles * Hand Drum Contest * Cash Prizes, Authentic Native American Foods & Craft. Please be aware Drugs, Alcohol, Violence and Weapons will not be tolerated. Absolutely no outside sales or raffles unless approved by Powwow Committee. Directions: On Interstate 5, there are nine Stockton exits. Take the March Lane exit (rather than the Pershing Avenue Exit). If you are driving south from Sacramento, turn left off the March Lane exit and go under the overpass. If you are driving north from Los Angeles or San Francisco, turn right off the March Lane exit, away from the overpass. Drive east on March Lane for approximately 1.5 miles until you get to Pacific Avenue and turn right. A Target store is at that intersection. Drive south on Pacific Avenue for almost 1 mile. You will see the most prominent building on campus, Burns Tower, as you cross a bridge. After the bridge, turn right at the next stop light onto the campus. follow the signs to Pow-Wow Parking. Sept. 2-4 Circle of Life Bandera Powwow, 2886 State Highway 16 N, Bandera, TX 78003. Contest Powwow. Dance Competition Information and Rules: The 2011 Circle of Life Intertribal Powwow will be holding 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, place competition dancing for all adult categories. We will also have Teen Boy/ Teen Girl “winner takes all” competitions and Jr. Boy/Jr. Girl “winner takes all” competitions. First place adult categories will take home $200.00 in prize money. Overall, we will have $3,900.00 payout! We welcome all dancers, to come and participate, competition and non-competition. There will be plenty of dancing for all. Junior Dancers: All male dancers between the ages of (12-6yrs.) will be combined in a “winner takes all dance” competition. All female dancers between the ages of (12-6yrs.) will be combined in a “winner takes all” dance competition. Tiny Tots: For ages 5 yrs. and younger, All are winners and will receive a prize right after their dance exhibition. Basic Rules and Registration Info: All dancers must register and receive a number before the first Grand Entry. You must be in all 3 Grand Entries and dance during the Powwow in your category. Dancers will be judged on performance. You must also be in your regalia to receive prize money on Sunday. All dancers must register in appropriate category, based on age and regalia attire. Dancers can only register for one category. Dancers wanting to challenge judge’s decision will be required to pay a $200.00 challenge fee. Any dancer who looses a major piece of regalia during dance competition is asked to disqualify themselves voluntarily or be disqualified by the head judge. Sept. 16-17 - UPDATED: Fifth Annual Ft. Hamby Pow Wow. Ft. Hamby Park, 1534 South Recreation Road, Wilkesboro, NC 28697. Hours: 9 am to 6pm both Friday and Saturday. This is an educational event. There will be demonstrations all day in addition to the regular pow wow activities. The Park Rangers help with the demonstrations and we will have dancing, drumming, singing, flint knappers, tipis, Kids activities, story telling, and lots more going on all weekend. ADMISSION: The park charges $1 per person up to $4 per car. The pow wow is $5 for Adults and $2 for Kids. Friday is Kids Day and all school children are FREE with the schools. Boy and Girl Scout groups will be admitted FREE on the weekend when they come as a group with their Scout Leaders. DIRECTIONS: From Wilkesboro, NC, take US421 north six miles to MilePost 293. Sept. 24-25 Noxen Volunteer Fire Co 7th Annual Fall Pow Wow, Noxen Fire Company Grounds, Stull Road, Noxen, PA 18636. This is an “all nations gathering” Pow Wow. Gates open at 10 am on Saturday and close at 10 pm with grand entry at noon with night dancing and trade blanket. Sunday gates open from 10 am until 6 pm on Sunday with grand entry at noon. All times are on “Indian time”. Host Drum: Daughters of the Southern Wind with Wyona Singers and Thunder on the Mountain as guests. Head male dancer Joe “Spirit Wolf” and DiAnne “Running Wolf” as head female. There will be Native American dancing in full regalia, various local drums, story telling, trade blanket, and Native American food and craft vendors. No Admission fee, open to the public. All dancers/vendors are welcome. This is a non competition gathering. Camping is free but there is a $5.00 per day fee for electric. Pot Luck Dinner on Saturday, please bring a covered dish.
