June 3-5  Sealaska Heritage Institute Celebration, Juneau, AK,  Sealaska Heritage Institute will sponsor the next Celebration June 3-5, 2010 in Juneau. SHI's biennial Juried Art Show and Competition will debut June 2. Hotels sometimes fill up soon after this date is released, so SHI encourages people to book rooms early. Please check back for more information.  Celebration is a biennial festival of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian tribal members organized every two years by Sealaska Heritage Institute. The Juneau event began in 1982, born of SHI's Board of Trustees' desire to celebrate and showcase Southeast Alaska Native traditions and customs. Since that time, Celebration has become an effective and energetic vehicle for encouraging individuals, families, clans and communities to participate in traditional song and dance, arts and crafts, and the revitalization of Native languages. It is one of the largest gatherings of Southeast Alaska Native peoples and is the second largest event sponsored by Alaska Natives in the State of Alaska.  For more info go to: http://www.sealaskaheritage.org/celebration/index.htm
